Moss -
Moss is a green colored mesh(or moss) looking patch on the ground found most commonly in random island mode.
What moss does is every few days a mushroom will grow there and there is a chance that a toxic mushroom (or poison mushsroom) to grow there.It also spawns snails.
It is normally a good idea to start building your base close to one of these for an extra food income.
